Please can you let any UK Amputees that you know or are working with about this year's Amputee Games at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.
The 2009 amputee games is now only five weeks away. 100 amputees and other ambulant disabled will be able to have a go at 13 paralympic sports over this two-day fun packed weekend. The confirmed sports are Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Bowls, Cycling, Fencing, Power Lifting, Shooting, Sitting Volleyball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Tennis in addition competitors can try their hand at Cue Sports and learn about adaptive rowing and wheelchair rugby. Each sport is run by representative form the sports organisation or governing body.
Representatives from the British Paralympic Talent Team will be available to promote their fast-track programme, so it is well worth any sporting amputees getting in touch. However, you don't have to have a sporting history to take part in the Amputee Games you just need to be enthusiastic and want to have a bit of fun trying different sports which you may take up as a hobby or competitively.
Keeping fit and taking part in sport helps newly disabled people with their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation. So if you want to join us please complete the attached registration information. If you have been an amputee for more than five years and you still want to take part let us know because we will have places left. Please pass this information on to any amputees you know who you think may benefit from taking part in the games. please let members of your user group know about the games by handing out our registration forms and posters. If you don't have the facilities to print these them please email me your address and I will post extra forms and posters to you. We have raised the funds for 100 amputees to take part in this year's games and to date we have 50 participants coming form the following limb centres, Roehampton (1 person), Portsmouth (10 people), Northern Ireland (26 people), Oxford (1 person), Sheffield (1 person),
