UE cable lubrication dilemma.
Thanks to all of the many people who responded by email and those who ferreted out who I am and called my office. No calls please. The majority of the responses dealt with spray on silicone, WD-40, bicycle and motorcycle chain lube spray products. I am aware of these products and they would ease the friction of the cable and housing but they would also soil the sleeve of the garment that wearer had on.
I was looking for something innovative or unorthodox to be applied at the time of the cable fabrication or after it is in use that will not get all over the users shirt sleeve. I have listed the best responses below.
Number 1 response was Door-Eze for squeaky or sticking doors. Been used for some time by some limb makers. Comes in a stick form. Hardware stores carry it.
Paraffin wax and regular bar soap got a few recommendations.
Surfboard wax got a few responses. This could possibly be the sleeper of the bunch. It has to be waterproof and have retention ability on the board's surface. ( isn't readily available here in Maine)
Also mentioned were Eezox gun lube and Dri-Slide.
One avenue of addressing this issue is to abandon the conventional cable and use spectra cord or, you guessed it, weed wacker line! Friction free.
TRS was mentioned several times. They have a stainless cable-housing-Teflon product that I have yet to investigate. Wondering my cost.
The HD housing with a Teflon liner with a standard cable was also mentioned stating the standard cable holds up to more rigorous use in the friction free environment of this system. I may try this in my own MythBusters experiment.
Again thank you.
