I want to thank AOPA and Tom Fise, AOPA Executive Director in
particular, for the absolutely outstanding actions - and with great
success, taken by AOPA under Tom's leadership, in the most recent state
of Texas issue of Texas putting a tax on O&P related to Medical Device
Registration. A tax of from $2,225 to $3,708 per facility.
If you are not aware of this issue, see the 3/10/09 issue of the AOPA
AIA and/or talk to some of your counterparts from Texas.
Folks had this counter action taken by AOPA not been made and the bill
had gone into affect, it had the distinct potential of spreading to more
and more states. This is without a doubt true in this day and age of
states running short of revenues and looking for more places from which
to get it.
So in quick and brief summary, let me - let us all extend our thanks and
appreciation to Tom Fise and to AOPA and its Board of Directors for
taking this astronomical step in our behalf. Quite frankly, reducing
this to dollars, this will more than cover your AOPA dues each year for
years to come.
From what I know from the outside, we all owe a big thanks to Tom Fise.
As I understand he went far back in his trade association contacts and
came up with the right people/attorneys to take this issue on. Even if
I don't have all this exactly correct, enough of it is that we all owe
Tom Fise a great big debt of gratitude.
Thanks Tom!! Sam Hamontree
