Dear Listmembers:
I am writing to ask for suggestions about how to fix a smooth pin lock.
The patient is a 43 year old male, bilateral amputee (right tf, left tt) secondary to trauma 8 years post-op. He weighs 115 kg and is 1,75 m in height.
He is currently fit with with a trans-femoral hard socket using a Tf Seal In liner, which is working well. His trans-tibial hard socket uses a 3mm Dermo locking liner and the Ossur 400 series pin lock (the old Pin from Pi Medical) with the standard length pin, which was working well until 2 weeks ago.
At that time the patient began to notice that the pin would occasionally not lock despite being engaged in the lock receptacle. He can get it to lock if he pumps his leg several times into the socket but obviously this is not how the lock was designed to work. Before this time he experienced no problems .
The strange thing is that if you place the pin in the lock it works fine.
It is noteworthy that his limb volume has not changed significantly before or during this incident, and he is not using any socks over the liner.
Your ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
J. Reynik
