OPERF Names First Tamarack Award Recipient
The Orthotic and Prosthetic Education and Research Foundation (OPERF),
Inc. is proud to announce that Gary Horton, CO, FAAOP has been awarded
the first Tamarack Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Orthotic
Science and Practice.
Gary Horton has been a certified orthotist for more than 30 years and is
a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, a
member of the International Society of Prosthetists and Orthotists, and
is currently President of the Arkansas State Orthotic and Prosthetic
Association.
Gary is President and CEO of Horton's Orthotic Lab, Inc. and Horton
Technology, Inc. and was recently appointed by the Governor of Arkansas
to serve as Vice-Chair of the Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics
Advisory Board. This board oversees licensure in Arkansas.
Horton has founded several community events for children with physical
disabilities. He was presented with the Clinical Creativity Award from
the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists in 2003.
Mr. Horton was presented with his prize of $10,000 at the Academy's 35th
Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium on March 5th in Atlanta.
The OPERF Tamarack Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Orthotic
Science and Practice is awarded to an individual who has made a
significant contribution to the practice and understanding of orthotic
science within the last five years. Ideal candidates are those who have
a history of clinical care, scientific research, and peer-reviewed
publication in the orthotics profession and/or industry.
