Timothy Howard McCluney, CO (1944 – 2009)
On March 24, 2009 we lost a good friend, Timothy Howard McCluney. This is a great loss to all who knew him and were blessed to be treated by him throughout his dedicated career as an Orthotist serving the patients of North Central Florida. He was a great husband, father of 3 and a grandfather as well. He loved life, loved his family, and was a great boss. Howard was a Northwestern University Graduate, and an American Board Certified Orthotist who was an active member of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists, an active member and previous Board member of the Florida Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists, an active member and previous board member of the Florida Chapter of the Academy. His company was member of the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association. I personally am proud to say he was a founding and active member of the International African American Prosthetic-Orthotic Coalition, and was currently serving on the Florida State Board of Orthotic and Prosthetic Licensure. He was also an active member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Howard loved his profession and proudly ran his own business, McCluney’s Orthopedic & Prosthetic Services in Gainesville, Florida since the early 1980’s. Prior to starting his own business he worked at Shand’s Hospital at the University of Florida in the orthopedic department working closely with orthopedic surgeo
ns caring for both pediatrics and adults. He was introduced to Orthotics as a teenager and was mentored by Bill Hancock in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He treated everyone with respect, no matter what walk of life they came from. Howard will be missed by many.
