Much more cheerful greetings.
On Saturday Santa Barbara's Jesusita Fire was considerably knocked
down. A dramatic weather change overnight gave firefighters the
reprieve needed. Santa Barbara had a coastal fog settle in with a slight
onshore flow and brought the humidity level up, while the offshore flow
and Santa Ana conditions subsided. At 8:00pm on Saturday it is now 65
degrees instead of the 85-95 degrees we had both Wednesday thru Friday
evenings.
We have been able to return to our office and my parents home, both
intact. Most of the mandatory evacaution orders have been lifted already
today with the exception of the more remote areas. The fire has been 50%
contained and the weather outlook remains positive through Monday.
Projections tend to be somewhat fickle and can change for the worse just
as quickly.
There remains a lot of mopping up and ashes with poor air quality. Some
lives have been forever changed.
I can only thank all the firefighters, friends and community for all the
support and offers of assistance.
A significant challenge faced here locally was the evacuation of special
needs populations and nursing home residents.
I can only encourage each of you to contact and support your local Red
Cross and prepare your own contingency plans for evacuation of your own
families, office and coworkers.
Best Wishes to all.
