Hi and happy New Year to everyone! I have a challenging self abusing
patient who needs eye surgery. I've been asked to provide her with a
helmet, that she is to wear 24/7 for one month while her eyes heal. Due to
lack of funding I've supplied her with a hockey helmet with a full clear
face mask and lots of holes drilled all over for air conditioning. I've
filled in areas under the mask with a rigid foam so she can't get her hands
up, but when she gets really upset she seems to be able to slide the helmet
up somewhat. She also needs a neck collar because she tries to squeeze her
trachea from time to time. The OT has asked be to somehow attach these two
pieces so there are no donning errors due to multiple staff. Any
suggestions, is there anyone with lots of experience in this area?

Thank you,

Karen Boehm COC
