*O&P Day
Tallahassee
*
*Attention All Florida P&O practitioners, facility owners, and
manufacturers of O&P equipment and supplies
*
The Florida Legislature has declared March 10th as O&P day in Florida.
The Florida Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists (FAOP) is
coordinating an event in Tallahassee. We have space available in the
lobby of the House building to display our profession and associated
industries. The lobby is where all the Representatives, Senators,
Aides, and Lobbyists must pass through to get to the offices above. It
is important for us to show off our profession's role in health care and
make sure the lawmakers are aware of our economic impact in Florida.
Last year FAOP was able to remove the surety bond requirement (and it's
cost) for Medicaid O&P providers, prevent O&P services from becoming
taxable, and maintain Medicaid O&P coverage for adults. This year
Florida is facing a multi-Billion dollar revenue shortfall, and to
balance the budget Legislators will look at reducing all non-essential
services and raising revenues where ever possible. We need a strong
showing to let the Legislators know who we are and what we do.
FAOP is inviting all practitioners, FAOP member or not, to contact us
and make arrangements to come to Tallahassee Practice owners show off
your practice. Patients, especially children, with success or horror
stories are good news makers. Patients who are athletes, have
interesting hobbies or vocations, or somehow shine are valued assets in
the promotion of the profession. Bring them to Tallahassee, its good PR
for you and even better for the profession.
If you are a manufacturer of O&P products or supplies it is doubly
important for you to attend. Our industry is so small we are overlooked
by the economic statistics. Lets show the legislators how Florida's O&P
businesses produce products, parts, and services used throughout the
country and world.
There is no cost from the State to display, but you must provide all
your own display materials. FAOP is coordinating and assigning space.
FAOP's lobbyist can arrange meetings between you and your local
Representatives and Senators, letting your legislators know what are
your concerns and putting a local face to our profession.
Mark your calendar, March 10th, and make plans to be in Tallahassee.
Space is limited so don't delay.
Need more information? Contact me at: * <Email Address Redacted> *
Once you have committed to attend, contact Lisa at the FAOP office and
let her know how you want to participate. We will send out additional
information as the time nears and the participants are confirmed.
