List,
Thank you to those who responded. Initial inquiry followed by the responses.
INQUIRY: I am looking specifically for those practitioners/technicians who fabricate their own KO's for ACL injuries. Recommendations on frame, liner, knee joints, or any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. --P. Rieth CPO1465
RESPONSES:
--Fillauer makes a decent joint and so does Wade Bader thru Kinetic systems. As a matter of fact, Wade will send you the whole kit for your own manufacturing which requires lay up and lamination.
-- Wade Bader in Tampa makes ACL braces in his office. He also will central fab or sell you the kit
to do it yourself. You can also send your tech down to him and get him trained to do it the right way.
--Select a style/brand and duplicate it.
--i fabricated a few myself in my career, using Otto Bocks stainless steel knee joints. very reliable and sturdy.
i actually attended one of their courses in duderstadt/ germany to get started on that 15 years or so ago.
also i always laminated them in, it is really not too complicated. there is another company out there in Germany - all employees defected from IPOS Lueneburg by the name of --- and now it left me, I have to think about that, their products orthotically are actually superior to OB but they have problems getting into the market up here. OB is really good and reliable though. they are the ONLY ACL knee joints available. USMC used to make something similar, but...to get started you will need the joints, then the 743Y56 1 Size 1 Stainless Steel Alignment Adapter and 743Y55 Aluminum Plaster Impression Adjustment, i cant find the number for the joints right now but i am sure they have them.
END
