Dear Listserve;

We are treating a 60 something year old male Dx with IDD. Complications
have left him with AK and BK amputations.

Additionally he has had 7 fingers amputated. In an effort to increase
his functional abilities we want to provide him with a device which
would provide him with greater oppositional force for which to grasp
objects and thus increase his ADLs.

Left hand has 4 fingers gone with a fully functional thumb. Right hand
has 3 middle fingers gone with little finger fully flexed at DIP and
PIP. The finger has no function but the thumb has full function.

We wish to fabricate a device of some description which he can use as a
glove with a distal palmer build-up to reduce the thumb movement into
endrange opposition-thus increasing the pinch force.

He currently has difficulty grasping many objects, he would like to,
among many things, hold a newspaper.

Please provide suggestions to help us help this kindly gentleman.

Thanking you in advance,

Gordon Bass CPO FAAOP
