An update on animal rescues.
I was called into action prior to Hurricane Ike hitting the Texas coast. We
were held in Shreveport Louisiana. The Texas authorities would not allow us
into perform pre evacuations like we had just done in New Orleans. The first
Sunday after the storm came in, we were called into action to first go to
Beaumont. The first trip I made was to deliver 102 animals from their
shelter there to McKinney Texas. 352 miles each way, through Houston with
terrible traffic due to power outages. I even have a sister in the Dallas
area and did not get to slow down enough to stop and say hello in person. I
did call. I delivered these animals to a beautiful Humane Society up there
and met a very nice woman named Anne that took these guys with a promise of
finding them homes. I returned to the coast all in a total of 15 ½ hours.
Boy was I tired. I returned home to Florida for about a week and was pressed
back into service to drive a load of 159 cats and dogs from Galveston to St
Petersburg Fl. 1058 miles in 17 hours straight. I was so tired that I
actually fell asleep in a restaurant Tuesday night while waiting for my
dinner. The poor waiter wasn’t convinced he should trust me with a knife or
fork. I ate and went to sleep at a hotel and slept 11 ½ hours straight. It
did take an alarm to wake me and I know I will really sleep well tonight.
This weekend we are bring 3 more vehicles home from Galveston and a lot more
animals will be brought in also.
Thank you all for your help and your donations also. It is all very
appreciated. If you wish to contribute please send it to:
