I am making a Medial upright KAFO for a little girl with blounts. I have
been looking at various designs for the KAFO and all seem to use elastic
for the lateral proximal pressure on the Tibia. I am wondering if there is
a reason why elastic is used over a more solid material with
adjustibillity. I am thinking of using a molded floating pad attached to
ergoflex and having anterior and posterior pullback straps feed thru loops
on the medial upright. My logic is that is gives a better presure
distribution (using the broad ergoflex in the leg contact area) while
having a firm lateral pull with say the dacron pull back straps anterior
and posteriorly.
Just wondering if the use of elastic wrapping posterior to anterior,
applies lateral pressure while also trying to encourage external rotation
of the tibia
Hope that this question is clear. Anyones thoughts would be greatly
appreciated.
