Newington Certificate Program announces new Distance Learning Program
Now accepting applications for the Fall 2008 semester
Newington, CT - The Newington Certificate Program in Orthotics &
Prosthetics is pleased to announce the launch of a new Distance Learning
Program (DLP) for students interested in earning their First Discipline
education from afar. This fully accredited program offers qualified
individuals nationwide the opportunity to obtain their orthotic and / or
prosthetic education without relocating to Connecticut. Applications are
currently being accepted for Fall 2008, the first semester of
Newington's First Discipline DLP.
The success of Newington's Second Discipline DLP prompted the
development and launch of this new First Discipline DLP, Newington
Curriculum Coordinator Matt Parente said. It's a proven model that has
cultivated successful clinicians whose talent and expertise are
consistently recognized throughout the industry. We are confident this
new distance learning program will do more than simply maintain the
strong reputation of a Newington education. It will serve as an
efficient and effective means of attracting new talent and advancing our
profession.
The new First Discipline DLP is a nine-month, two-semester,
post-baccalaureate certificate program in orthotics or prosthetics that
utilizes a unique e-learning delivery system comprised of video-based
classes, real-time webinars, conference calls, access to the Newington
web-based library, and one-on-one interaction with instructors via
phone, email, and video communication. The flexible classroom coursework
is combined with critical hands-on clinical experience at a host or
sponsor patient care center within the student's hometown. This
combination of practical clinical care and sound academic education
prepares students for all facets of orthotic and prosthetic patient care
without relocation.
Previously, Newington students were required to earn their First
Discipline education on campus in Connecticut before being eligible for
the Second Discipline DLP. Now with the launch of this new program,
Newington students can earn their comprehensive O&P education entirely
from their hometown.
While we anticipate many students who are just beginning their academic
and clinical journey into O&P, we also recognize this First Discipline
DLP is the perfect way for practicing orthotists and prosthetists to
earn the formal education necessary for state licensure requirements,
Parente said.
Applicants are required to have a baccalaureate degree from an
accredited college or university with prerequisite college coursework
that meets the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education
(NCOPE) admission standards. Scholarship opportunities are available.
