I am having difficulty with several local cardiologists. They are
restricting access to prosthetic care to their patients. They are citing studies
outlining the increased energy required to ambulate with a prosthesis. I believe
that it is intuitive that these patients are going to use less energy standing
and in minimal household ambulation with a prosthesis than standing on one leg
and hopping. Unfortunately I need a study proving this. I would also like a
study discussing the elevated risk of standing and pivoting and hopping on
one foot that is vascularly compromised versus having double support in a
prosthesis. Seems that two feet on the ground reduces shear by half?

In short medical providers do not accept intuitive ideas and require proof.
Fair enough. I am hoping somebody out there can help me out with this datum.
If not perhaps we have a couple of great ideas here for future studies proving
the benefits of prosthetic management.

I will post responses.
