While we are all on that fine subject of cast saws....

Stryker, at least the traditional grey one with broken neck, is very easy
to repair. I have fixed several of those simply by replacing a bearing that
is underneath the lid held in place by 4 screws. at the same time, there's a
felt pad in there, which is supposed to be soaked in thick lubricant and
lubricate that bearing(GMC has a very nice grease for their cars with PTFA i
believe, works great! and is not made in Germany :o)). out of all broken
Strykers that i fixed, 98% had that bearing bad and felt pad dry, plus full
of plaster. so i figured that simply doing maintenance - removing that lid,
packing pad with good grease - makes them saws run very well and for long
time.
also, please, don't draw the balde(esp techs). go up and down. you'll be
surprised how much longer that Stryker will serve.
oh, and bearings for the saw used to be somewhere around $6 a pop.

sincerley,

I. Lesko, LPO
