Title:
Ivan Long Progress Report
Text:
It has been a very busy week and a half for Ivan Long. Ivan has had
congestive heart failure 3 times. The heart doctors decided to go ahead and implant
a new pacemaker yesterday because the top portions of his heart were so weak
that they were no longer able to get the bottom portions to kick in. The
pacemaker seems to be working very nicely today. He has had a lot of swelling
and his kidneys are not working properly and that added to the heart failure.
They have gone back to the regimen of antibiotics every 4 hours around the
clock, plus an additional antibiotic that he will receive every 12 hours.
His white cell count is still rather high and they are hoping that this new
pacemaker will not get infected. Ivan was kind of down today, but seeing that
the surgery just was 24 hours ago I'm sure that tomorrow will be a better day
for him. He is beginning to wonder if things will progress from here. The
case worker thinks that he will be in the hospital for 2 more days and then
Ivan can be moved back to the rehab center to strengthen himself again. Thanks
again for the emails - he does look forward to them every morning when I go
to the hospital. Keep them coming!
