I just had a phone call from some company in California called AGAPE, and they wanted my fax number to send me some information on the competitive bidding issues. I engaged him in a conversation, asking him what they had to do with this issue, and he said that they are a consulting firm that can help me with any bidding or anything that I might need to protect my business with these issues.
I explained to him that I am so far in an area where the competitive bidding hasn't hit....yet. I asked him if he was supporting this movement or against it, and he stated that they are totally in favor of this and are there to help US with our bidding or whatever....basically they are making a business of being a middle man with this bidding movement.
I explained to him how many of our current contracts with insurance companies are so low that it prevents us from being able to provide some services, and if this bidding goes on to include custom prosthetics and orthotics, that it will lead to many places not being able to provide services, at least not the high quality devices or components that are out therer available.
I ended the conversation with him that if they are supporting this competitive bidding issue, then I really don't want anything from them, and did not give him my fax number.
So, just to give everyone here a heads up on this, if you get a call from AGAPE, they are supporting this bidding, which I think that most of us out here (at least the independent facilities) are totally against for many reasons. Explain to the person on the phone how you feel about it and how this will hurt the patients and those needing these services and devices.
Have a great weekend
