A while back, we posted an article on Trust and here it is again for
those of you who may have missed it. There is also a second article, a
bit more from the scientific approach that is also quite informative.
The issue of trust -- building it, maintaining, and getting it back when
it is non-existent is really at the root of almost all the issues we
often come across as stagnation points in companies. I encourage you
all to get the book Speed of Trust-The one thing that changes
everything by SR Covey.
It's a simple, quick read with good questions to ask yourself. For
example:
How effective is my current style in approaching problems and
opportunities and interacting with others? Does my approach facilitate
or get in the way of accomplishments in what needs to be done? What can
I do to improve the way in which I go about doing things? Am I open to
the possibility of learning NEW truths that may cause me to rethink
issues or even redefine my values? --- DEEP Questioning can stimulate
your thought processes to work thru situations and help you to progress.
Write down your answers and thoughts, date them, then pull them out in a
few months and review them again. This is the way to actually help to
get these new principles that will build character.
From the Lipmanowicz article, he lists several DO's and Dont's -- Jot
them down and refer to this list often!
Here's a few: Do: Build on trust Don't: Depend on Controls; DO:
Give freedom to experiment DON'T: Reward Conformity DO: Take Risks
DON'T: Stand Still;
DO: Be a Role Model DON'T: Expect others to do more than you do
Take a few hours this weekend (yes, you can) and focus on what you can
do to open the gate to being more trusting and trustworthy.
