Good Afternoon,

I am seeing a new 21 yo active college female s/p acl and medial meniscal
tear that is approximately 4 yrs old. She experienced femoral nerve damage
post surgery, resulting in no quad function. The pt. still has normal PFs
and DFs. She ambulates like some new AK amputees, digging in the heel to
ensure full extension/lock at heel strike. Her biggest problem is falling
and stumbling to the ground, especially on stairs and uneven terrain. She
has tried a Donjoy ACL brace in the past provided by her orthopedist - it is
a hood ornament. The physical therapist asked about a stance control Knee
orthosis without limiting the ankle/foot complex in any fashion.

The only system I know to work as a KO is the Fillauer SPL. Has anyone had
experience with the system as a KO, and how effective was it for your
patient?

Has anyone fabricated a custom KO with extension straps that act like stance
control mechanisms? If so, what did you find to be the best type of strap to
use?

Thank you.
