My original question posted to the list was:

What are people using for a low cost protective helmet (hard or
soft)? Michigan Medicaid reimbursement for this item is less then
the cost of a Danmar soft helmet.

hockey helmets

pls post replies - i've had this dilemma in MA - any alternatives i
found were not considered medical grade & as such were not acceptable
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Same in PA Ted. We don't provide to insured, only to hospitals with
PO. Please post responses.

Have you looked into Hockey Helmets?

Bicycle helmet from Walmart.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We're billing using A8000. Both Maryland and DC Medicaid pay almost twice
what the helmet costs.

Walmart. Bell bike helmets. They are about $15-25.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hockey helmets work great and are available in a huge variety of sizes.

I used this before. Is VERY low cost, quality is reflected in the price.

Thanks to all who responded so quickly. I was hopeful that there
would be some other option that I was not aware of but that does not
seem to be the case. I've looked into hockey and skateboarding
helmets in the past. Clearly this is a common problem and perhaps it
represents an opportunity for one of our supplier companies.
