Dear List,

I have my CROWs fabricated by local central fab. We have been very
successfully using two chicago screws(different material), in the distal toe
box, to hold shells together. Untill today, after almost 2 yrs, when part of
the inner shell, where the screws are attched to, simply broke off with a
loud pop, when CROW was removed from the patient after 1st fitting.
I can not figure out what happened. Same plastic, same hands that made many
for me the same way, even material thickness, same screws, same inner soft
padding. I'd prefer to keep using this set up for my CROWs, as it works very
well, but now my central fab is becoming hasitant, as they had their
concerns about breakage from the get go and do not want costly remakes.
I am open to friendly advice on how to improve this idea, or what we are
doing wrong. Same patient has CROW, made by the same fab, for over a year,
with same screws, and has no trouble. As a matter of fact, she snapped those
screws once (they are either SS or Ti), but the shells still hold.
I have tried virtually everything else to keep shells from seperating, and,
so far, those 2 screws work the best.
Great weekend to everyone,

Igor lesko, LPO
