Hello list!!! I have the pleasure of working with a congenital Transtibial amputee with congenital fibular abscence. She is fairly long 9 and is suffering from vericuse hyperplasia. I have her in a socket and we are having problems with continued distal problems. I have tried the usual distal pads, shrinkers worn with her prosthesis, stretch socks, wool socks etc. though we have made great strides she is not as active as she would like due to distal discomfort. Initially we fitted her with a total contact socket and then gradaully opened the distal lateral to her comfort level. We are now adding material back and are not making the gains we would like. Her prosthesis consists of a modular endo with sock/suction fit, no valve or auxillary suspension-this what she prefers. She does not want silicone, vacuum, or anything other than a three ply sock fit.
Ideally I think she would be well suited to a bladder type distal end that is commercially available and easily replaced as she is a K-3 or better functional level. My question to you is this....what have you tried that has the best results. I will post all replies.
