On occasion, we're asked to provide cervical traction. What's the proper
L code? We've used unlisted before as I recall. Randy McFarland, CPO

RESPONSES
Look on the E code list. Traction is DME.

The code for overhead traction is E0942

I think you will find the proper code for an over the door cervical
traction unit is E0860

Traction is an E-code because it is a DME item.

I believe there is an E-code

Its not an L code, its an E(DME) code

This is a tough one and we finally found this code that at least pays
something. It's and E Code and you must us the NU modifier (for NEW) or
they will assume it's a rental. The code is E0860 NU and you can
look up the description and the fees on the CMS fee web site.

We have used E0880 in the past, although it has been a long time.

We use an E code (E0860, I think) often times it is difficult to cover
cost.
