Good Afternoon,
Providing orthoses in a pediatric facility requires frequent
adjustments as the children grow. This includes replacing straps,
rivets, chafes, etc. Because many of our children are active, the
orthoses are put to the test. In addition to repair, and adjustment of
these devices, we often use all-purpose thinner or (previously) acetone
to remove debris and adhesive from the orthosis.
We were advised to use acetone in a limited capacity because it has a
low flash point. Thinner works well as a cleaning agent, however it
requires wearing special gloves so it is not absorbed into the skin, and
it also gives off fumes.
We may install a slotted vent to decrease the concentration of the
thinner fumes, however we are asking if there is another cleaning
solution that works to clean off the orthoses and remove the
adhesive/debris which remains on the orthosis from the removal of velcro
straps.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings,
What ever works for you !
