I would like to know if there is a phone number to contact CMS as a provider
that has an issue with a patients' coverage under Medicare.

Background;

            I made and delivered a B/K prosthesis to a man. After submitting
the bill to Region C we were told that Medicare shows he has a private
insurance. The private carrier sent a letter confirming that he had no
coverage. However region C stated that this is an issue that only the
patient can resolve by calling 1-800 medicare. Since July we have been
unable to contact the patient as he has moved and left no forwarding
address. Region C states that only CMS can clear this up before they can
release payment.

Has anyone else faced this situation? Are we now required to keep the
patient's insurance information up to date with CMS? If so what is the
procedure? Is there a phone number of someone that can answer these
questions?

Look forward to hearing any responses.
