Good afternoon,
Here are some comments, some helpful, some interesting.
Thank you to all.

Why doesn't Shriner's pay an outside vendor to do it? Really what is
the big deal. They have the funding, and a family in need. Hardly
anybody does these in house so there is still a cost and a charge. It
would cost Shriners more at this point in time to do it, to learn it,
etc.
Stop crying for them and help them.
There is eastern cranial affiliates in the washington, dc area. not
exactly around the corner, but they may be able to help you network.

We do custom star band helmets and accept Medicaid if they so have it!
If not we are about 1500.00 dollars less expense then the other big
outfit. We have a office in charlotte only 20 to 30 min. from Rock Hill
SC.

Hi there! I know it's a trip from SC, but Arkansas Childrens' Hospital
in Little Rock, AR. does a wonderful job with the molding helmets. I
used to work there for 5 years and fit them myself. I personally attest
to their capabilities and I'm sure they would be able to help this
family. The contact person there is:
Scot Sepe,CPO - 501-364-2262 (he actually used to work for Shriners in
St.
Louis)
Hope this helps. You can tell him that Rhonda told you about him. Good
luck to you and this family. thanks for letting us know!

ED,
Check with Orthomerica and speak to Joyce or Gary Hicks. They are the
manufacturers of the Starband cranial remolding orthosis. They keep a
list of orthotists qualified to do helmets and they can probably direct
you to someone in your area that can help these twins.

If the family doesn't have any insurance they should try calling Baby
Net.
Baby Net will provide items for children under 3 years old who are born
with physical and mental problems. Baby Net is sponsored by DHEC so
providers have to be a Medicaid provider and also contract with Baby
Net. Their phone number is 1-800-868-0404. Keep in mind that the family
doesn't have to qualify for Medicaid to receive help from Baby Net.

Shriners is there to address?

Hello Ed,
Cranial Technologies does the DOC band, but they are located in
Charlotte, NC. I know Hanger also does cranial orthoses. The patient
could check with Orthomerica to see if there are any providers using
their products. Hope this helps.

We do provide cranial band service in the Rock Hill office. Shonya
Wilson can give you further information along with an appt. for the
evaluation.
