Hello list. A reminder regarding NPI numbers:
August 20: Important NPI Deadline!
In accordance with the National Provider Number (NPI) Final Rule, all
durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies (DMEPOS)
suppliers are required to obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI)
for every business location. The only exception to this requirement is
when a DMEPOS supplier is a sole proprietor (or considered an
individual). Failure to comply with this requirement will result in
delayed processing or rejection of both Medicare and direct bill
Medicaid claims.
In May CMS announced an online registry of NPI numbers. All DMEPOS
suppliers are to analyze their information for the new Internet database
and to make any updates or changes. THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR REVIEW AND
EDIT IS AUGUST 20. CMS has pushed back the release of the registry such
that suppliers can view their FOIA-disclosable NPPES data and make any
edits they feel are necessary prior to the disclosure of the data. The
information will be available in a real-time, query-only database and a
downloadable file, and will include data from providers that are
disclosable under the Freedom of Information Act. The registry will
become operational on Sept. 4, and the downloadable file will be ready
approximately one week later. Each month thereafter, CMS will provide a
full replacement file that reflects updates and changes to the NPPES
records.
Providers can make changes to their data online at

> , or can call the NPI enumerator at (800) 465-3203 to request a paper
application. For more information go to
