Dear Colleagues,
Thanks for the overwhelming response to my query, summary below.
Original post:
Does anyone know of any charities/NGOs or other organisations working in
Tanzania, Africa, in the area of health, and more specifically, orthopaedics
and orthotics?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Responses:
I would contact the Tanzanian Training Centre for Orthopedic
Technology(TATCOT) through ISPO. TATCOT is located in Moshi Tanzania on the
campus of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre(KCMC)and provides
clinical services as well as training for orthotists and prosthetists. I am
sure they would be aware of NGO work in O&P.
The current President of the International Society for Prosthetics and
Orthotics, Mr. Harold G. Shangali, is a pioneer P&O Educator in Tanzania.
Please visit <URL Redacted> and he can be contacted at <Email Address Redacted>
...another person that you can contact is Mr. Mtalo, the Senior Lecturer of
TATCOT. The email add is below:
MTALO TATCOT
E-mail Address: <Email Address Redacted>
Try TATCOT at: <URL Redacted>
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Another contact is Liz Mach of Bugando Medical Center in Mwanza Tanzania.
While not directly involved in O&P, Liz is aware of the medical community in
Tanzania and is a great resource.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I know in Dar es salaam, a capital city of Tanzania there is disability
Hospital called Comprehensive comunity rehabilitation Hospital (CCBRT)

army hospital, and Monduli rehabilitation Hospital in Arusha, north of
Tanzania, Kilimanajaro Christian Centre (KCMC) mamanged by Good samaritan
foundation in Moshi.
There are also other Grovernment orthopadic centre provides Orthotics
service.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We are aware of two organizations that operate in Tanzania - one is the
Motivation Charitable Trust (www.motivation.org.uk) . Motivation operates in
various parts of the world, including Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin
America, and the UK, and is involved with Orthotics, Prosthetics, and
wheeled seating and mobility.
The second organization is associated with the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical
Center and is involved with teaching radiology at the hospital. I don't have
quick access to the name or contact info
