Original Post followed by the replies. Thanks to all who responded. By the way, I did try the WD-40, and it worked well.

Original Post: Anyone know of a chemical that is effective in removing the residue of 3M double stick tape? When used on copoly, this stuff is sometimes very difficult to remove by rubbing, or with use of acetone or thinner.

Responses:

--Try Heating the area with your heat gun for 20 seconds or so. Then either peel or wipe with a glue thinner.

--Try Goo-Gone from your local hardware store/Walmart/Target/grocery or Solumel from the Melaleuca Company.

--Poly-Adhesive Solvent...I know you can get it from Fillauer.

--Believe it or not, I have always found WD40 to be the best remover of tape or sticker residue. It may not work for you now, if the acetone has just gummed up the residue. Try it in the future, though, before you pull out the acetone.

--We have found that Goof-Off available at you local Home Depot, etc in the paint department works fairly well. Leaves a little residue that can then be removed with Acetone.

--Goof Off is a solvent that you can find at your local hardware or paintstore. It removes almost any residue that I have encountered. This includes old paint and duct tape adhesive.

--coconut oil

-- 3M 700 adhesive cleaner and solvent. It's in a spray can....you may have to apply it several times, but it will eventually all come off.

--try sticking some duct tape to the residue, and peeling it off. It pulls sticky residue off most things.

--Not sure of the adhesive your using, but try the highest concentrate alcohol you can find.

--rubbing alcohol

--You might try WD-40 or GooGone. With both apply let sit for a bit then wipe off. I do not know what copoly is but WE-40 and GooGone work will on every other surface I have used them on

--Have you tried Methyl Acetate? I've used it for a couple years on many applications. It will even remove those stubborn nylon wicks that get embedded in thermoline pulls. Don't use it on vivak.

--Trichloroethylene (TCE) solution, does not damage or stain most materials.

--You could try 3M Citrus Base Cleaner (spray). Let it soak for a few minutes. It may take more than one treatment to be able to loosen up the tape PSA.

--mineral spirits/paint thinner both work well on almost any old or sticky tape residue - also, you can try Goo Gone (available in most hardware or craft stores).
