In regards to Britt's posting below, we have encountered the same
situation in Houston. I actually sent a notarized statement to the
State Board in Texas signed by, the rep who fit the brace, the patient,
the patient's parent, and my certified practitioner attesting to this
non-licensed sales rep fitting my patient. Almost two years later, I
received my response. Nothing could be done.
We passed State Licensure 10 years ago in Texas, and the Dyna-Splint
reps still fits an estimated 10-40 braces per month, and the youknowwho
sales reps (certified fitters by BOC) fit dozens of functional knee
braces every month.
I must admit their sales reps sure do offer great service and
continually follow up on their patients, but when push comes to shove, I
think the patients would be better served to have a few less visits with
a licensed/certified practitioner who actually knows what he is doing.
In today's times of Fraud and Abuse and ambulance chasing, it's just not
adequate to provide good care. If an O&P facility can't compete with
the sales representatives, or the facilities that get creative, then
you may be doomed for failure.
State Licensure is a step in the right direction but it is not our
salvation.

Hi,
I was recently looking for a dyna-splint for one of the nursing homes
we cover. I finally got a hold of their rep in our area and was told
without any doubt that they will not sell those to an O&P facility that
we have to give the rep the patient's info and that the rep fits those
and bills for them. I asked about their training and licensing and was
told that these are not considered to be anything other than a splint
and that splints will not be covered by any state licensure bills.
Just food for thought.
