Thank you to all who replied on my inquiry young male who has been breaking
his Toe-Off style braces….learned about a couple new ideas….as for the “Blue
Rocker” he broke that one also…we’ve replaced his current one under warranty
and he’s going to come in for consult on different options…we have had good
experience with Custom Composites in Rhode Island for other patients and
will most likely go that route if he continues with the garbon graphite.

I’ve posted some replies below…..

Bader prosthetics in Tampa has a central fab. They developed the ultra G

design for carbon graphite, used in both orthotics and prosthetics. It

uses a combination of kevlar and carbon. They make a real low profile

design and it is very durable. I would recommend them.

Just wondering if you have tried Custom Composits in RI. Their design looks
to be more substantial than the other products on the market.

Have you tried Wade Bader @ Kinetic Research? They can fabricate any lay up

necessary . Also Otto Bock has a new stored energy strut that will also

work for you.

Best Regards

Glen Case CPO

have you tried the new Matrix MAX? It is supposed to be much heavier duty

than the original.

By nowadays polipropylene AFOs are being more durable and cheaper than
carbon ones. Try with 5mm polipropylene sheet under mold.

If you wanna more functionality, study the fact of use a toe rubber
articulation, but it will not be always possible.

switch to bluerocker. which part of the brace patient beaks? they need to be
coached not to step on anything prominent/sharp with the midfoot and trained
to walk down stairs right, so that half of the foot is not hanging off the
step. i don't know what size you put on the patient, probably large, i'd
oversize bluerocker and then trim footplate/tibial shell proximal so it
fits. they allow this by warranty now. also, toe-off is free to replace
under warranty once a year. used to be twice, they changed it.

i had BL toe-off gym goer and he never broke them. so, there's something
that causes her to break them, not just weight.

sincerely,

know this may sound like another advertisement from a vendor.

Trulife just launched their new Carbon AFO referred to as the Matrix

Max.

I was doing some testing on it here, the same as we do the prosthetic

feet for the ISO program.

I cycled it at a constant load of 100 Newton's which is equivalent to a

225lb. individual.

It was cycled for 2 million cycles without failure.

It appears to be a winner in the longevity run.

You may consider this if the individual liked the carbon type.

Just a suggestion,

Also, we provide the SAFO which is a silicone AFO, very effective for just
foot drop. There is a website at www.safo.eu.com which has info

The Walk On from Otto Bock has been very durable and do believe his weight
will be within their limits.
