Good Afternoon,
I have a patient, 18 months old, with L4/L5 spina bifida.
He presents with the most extreme internal tibial torsion I have seen.
Bilaterally his feet are perpendicular to the line of progression, but correctable to a neutral position.
At this time he is unable to ambulate, but is a proficient quadriped crawler.
He wears AFO's in his standing frame , but not when he is crawling.
The ideas I have had for treatment are: kinesiotaping, theratogs and possible wheaton style KAFO's to position foot towards external rotation.
Anyone out there have any further ideas with regards to treatment, AND does anyone have experience with reducing tibial torsion at this age.
Mom is a therapist and would like to try everything and anything before considering an osteotomy at this young age.
Thank you in advance.
