Text:
Thank you to all that responded.
Original post:
I am looking for a source for a pectus carinatum orthosis. Is there a
prefabricated or modular system available? Cost is an issue for the patient I am
treating.
Thanks,
David Falk, LPO
Responses:
currently building these new type with aluminum and
volara and leather straps. Not aware of a off shelf
type as of late. plastic sternal pad and shoulder pads
with a posterior and axilla strap. compression is the
factor for postive results. Cost of fabrication was
under 30 dollars. plus labor.

I make these in my office. Use parts from a CASH brace to set uo a brace. I
think I have a photo.

I just recently saw an add in the O&P Business News dated March 15th (I
think it is the most recent issue) on a pectus carinatum orthosis. It is on page
49 and the company is Westcoast Brace & Limb. Their web site is wcbl.com and
their phone # is 888-552-2555. I hope this helps.

Just happen to be looking at the latest O&P Almanac (March 07) and there
is a ad for this brace on page 19.
Westcoast Brace and Limb is the company. _www.wcbl.com_ ( <URL Redacted>)
Look at the aluminum frame design by Westcoast Brace & Limb, really simple &
east to make in house, but I chose another route. I will try to find the
specific picture I used, but it was pretty much cut from waist to just over apex
of the deformity, patient needs to gradually increase pressure over first
week. Look for hot spots at your follow up appt & relieve as necessary.
Tolerable gradual pressure over longer time will be more effective. I was able to
eliminate shoulder straps on my pt because he was very thin. The design I used
was a shortened TLSO, bivalved with a good pad at the crest of the sternum.
It was 1/8 polypro anterior with polyethylene posterior section to make
sitting & sleeping more tolerable. I got the design from Spinal Tech:

Greg Bauer at Westcoast Brace & Limb has something new called the

Try loocking for CDT-I or Dr. Marlos Coelho in the web. This apparatus
should be made according to the patient. It works well and i think it is cheap
to build. Pectus carinatum apparathus should be ever made according to the
case.
Tell me about results!
