Hello Everyone:
I do not post that often. I am a patient with spastic
diplegic cerebral palsy, dystonia and chronic pain. I
live in SW Ontario, Canada. I have had difficulty with
a pair of hard, plastic energy conserving Ankle Foot
Orthotics made three years ago. My physiatrist has
given me permission to go and get new braces because
these ones keep causing pressure sores. I have lack of
sensory input from my feet after rhizotomy done in
2000.
If a patient told you that they wanted braces to
assist in ambulation but also wanted them to help with
tone reduction and stretching of Achilles tendons,
would you say this could be done? I also need a brace
that is comfortable when sitting. I spend a lot of
time in my power wheelchair and current bracing gives
me pressure points even in sitting.
Any suggestions? Do I have hope in wanting all of
these things from one brace, or is it too much to
expect?
Any suggestions for someone to go and see?
Thank you for all of your help.
Jennifer
Don't Quit.
Don't quit when the tide is lowest,
For it's just about to turn;
Don't Quit over doubts and questions,
For there's something you may learn.
Don't quit when the night is darkest,
For it's just a while 'til dawn;
Don't quit when you've run the farthest,
For the race is almost won.
Don't quit when the hill is steepest,
For your goal is almost nigh;
Don't quit, for you're not a failure
Until you fail to try.
