Thanks to JIM FENTON for the OIG link!! What amazes me is how easy it
would be for Medicare to just make site visits and assure that anyone
trying to get a Medicare ID to bill L-codes, specifically, is an actual
facility accredited by an O & P specific accreditation body. From
there, they have to just say NO or revoke. Funny how they did this in
Dade county which is targeted for competitive bidding (As is
Pittsburgh!). Where did the discussion with CMS go wrong, I wonder.
Why, when studies like this OIG report clearly shows many of the
problems, does it have to ultimately go to the cheapest provider - which
we all know it will- in the competitive bidding. Those of us who do the
right things have a greater overhead, of course, so our prices aren't
going to be like the Dollar Store braces. And the list of accrediting
bodies CMS has listed is ludicrous.
