Dear list,
I recently had a follow-up with a 2 1/2 year old knee disarticulation patient wearing a Jr. Total Knee. The appointment was made because the patients PT said that knee was locked in extension. Upon examining the unit it appeared to be corroded causing it to bind and lock in extension. The corrosion appeared to occur due to a mixture of urine and foam cover (which drips down from the patients diaper, runs outside the socket and through the foam cover . We had previously tried to cover up or seal the knee unit with a custom made gaiter sleeve but the urine made its way through it. I was wondering if anyone else has run across this problem and how they have dealt with it (i.e. sealing the knee, using a different non-corrosive knee etc.).
Thank you for your time in advance,
Andrew Sawers
