I would like to call everyone's attention the posting of another issue of Artificial Limbs: A Review of Current Developments. August 1957 is now posted and covers Hip Disarticulation. This issue was sponsored by John Michael, CPO; a specialist and consultant working with this level of amputation.
I would like to point out that sponsorship of April 1961 has been rightly transferred to Greg Gruman,CP. Every year, Greg Gruman volunteers some of his time and resources to assist in teaching the Syme's prosthesis at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN. John Michael also give a lecture on Hip Disarticulation at century (and other lectures). I'd be much obliged if appreciation be given to the sponsors of both these issues.
The main articles in this publication are as follows:
Canadian Candidate
C. A. Bell, B.A.Sc, O.B.E., M.C
The Past and Present Medical Significance of Hip Disarticulation
Henry E. Loon, M.D.
The Evolution of the Canadian-Type Hip-Disarticulation Prostheis
Colin A. McLaurin, BASc.
The Biomechanics of the Canadian-Type Hip-Disarticulation Prosthesis
Charles W. Radcliffe, M.S., M.E.
Construction and Fitting of the Canadian-Type Hip-Disarticulation Prosthesis
James Foort, MASc.
Some Experience with the Canadian-Type Hip-Disarticulation Prosthesis
James Foort, M.A.Sc.

The new restrictions of the List Serv. prevent me from asking for donations for digital republishing projects. This is not an appeal because all 33 issues of Artificial Limbs have been sponsored. However, I want to point out that more donations that the O&P Digital Library receives, the more materials that can publish (just a statement of fact). There are no end of interesting books and articles to put online. When I contacted the major manufacturers about sponsoring Artificial Limbs, many refused because they did not want to be associated with anything that promoted older, less profitable technology. So it is unlikely that someone else will carry these projects along in the future. It is up to us. If you were to think that such a resource is worth developing and expanding; support with your dollars vote would be justified and logical. I should point out that by employing the subjunctive case in the previous sentence, makes it a hypothetical appeal, not an
actual appeal for donations and thus the acceptable use guidelines of the List Serv have been maintained.
You may also assist us by providing feedback to this email. This allows me to inform to the List Serv. of new postings because these emails qualify as a summary of responses to the previous introductory post on Jan.2. Below are all responses, one of which pointed out a misspelling in a website link I posted at the end of my original response (#5). I should point out that I have no official affiliation with the DRFOP (a non-profit organization, so by the statutes of the 501 c3 structure all donations are tax deductible – another statement of fact). I labor under the yoke of the List Serv. acceptable use guidelines just like everyone else.
Thank you, please keep those comments coming so that postings of new issues can be forthcoming in a timely manner and included with posting summaries. I have used initials below because I think it the polite thing to do. If you do not wish your initials used in future summarized responses, please inform me.
Best regards,
Charles King, CP

#1. Just a note to say Thank you. for your efforts to reproduce these fine reference materials. It has been needed for a LONG time. I wish I could have had these during my early years of practice to assist in my continuing education. I don't want to take up too much of your time but I had to send this little encouragement and the thank you. This service will benefit all practitioners, young and old alike.
Thanks again,
W. M.
#2. I am extremely thankful for your email and your project as per your
website that I just visited . . .

#3. This is great! Thank you!

#4. I greatly appreciate your efforts in preserving these
critically important documents and making them readily
available to the P&O community. I teach a portion of
the P&O program here in British Columbia, Canada and
often instruct students to study the foundational
papers on prosthetics. I am thankful that they will be
available in a digital form which is easily accessed.
Thank you,
J.L.
#5. You might wish to correct the typo that appears in your web site
below. Instead of 'platfrom' I suspect you mean 'platform'.
cheers
