*ORIGINAL MESSAGE*: A patient of mine has been expressing desire to learn
how to run with an AK prosthesis. Currently he has a full suction socket,
3R95 knee and 1C40 foot. Could you direct me to the resources available that
could be helpful. Where can I purchase Rober Gailey's videos for runners?
And if somebody is familiar with them - are they effective? Thank you.
*RESPONSES:*
1. I have a few good Above knee runners, that were trained by Todd
Schaffauser. He has developed a disc and a training schedule that has worked
real well. You can see him run on Youtube.com.Type in his name.

Good Luck Wade Skardoutos CP

 2. Have not seen the Bob Gailey videos or do not know anything about them,
but if you can contact Todd Shaufhause (or whatever his name is, I don't
remember, but he and Dennis were the ones traveling around the country doing
gait training, etc.) Todd is an AK and also a runner, he has helped
thousands of amputees across this country to improve some degree with
walking/running.
3.I attended one of these courses in Las Vegas a few months after loosing my
leg, and Dennis was great to work with and get some advice from. Since
working in prosthetics now for almost 9 years, I still look back at that
meeting and his advice and coaching, and it was definitely something very
useful for me and everyone else. I don't think they do these anymore (it
was put on by Endolite back in 1997-1999 or so) and then they moved on to
OPGA possibly, I am not sure.
I wish I could remember Todd's name for you, but I think you can come up
with it somewhere, maybe calling Endolite, someone there will surely
remember.
Also, Ossur has a great technical support team, and they have lots of info
for running and getting the appropriate alignment and all. I have the Flex
Run foot personally (a BK) and love it for running.
Good luck with it all. Jim DeWees, CP
4. Google Search found this link

5. Bob Gailey does a running camp in Atlanta at the Blaze Sports Track and
Field Camp. I am an above knee amp and went last year. you get 2 1/2 days
with him and it was great.
You could go to the blazesports web site and ask if he is going to be there
this year. the camp is usually in April. I also had the videos, but being
with him in person was much better.

6.I have attached some information related to BK and AK running
prosthetics,

Good luck in your endeavors,

 7. Try Bob Gailey PT at UN of Miami
Alan Hammer CPO FAAOP Hanger Prosthetics 9737 Cogdill Rd Suite 240 Knoxville,

8.You can contact Bob Gailey at <URL Redacted>
.
His videos I think are crucial. So is the intimate involvement of an
interested therapist. There is a lot of conditioning and agility work to do
before and after fitting. As far as componentry goes, I advise you to
contact Ossur. The best (arguably) system is a Mauch swing only knee with a
Flex Run. Auxiliary suspension is also a good idea. There is a good chance
that one of the Ossur guys could come out and help with alignment and such.
Good luck and have fun, David

THANK YOU ALL!
