My original inquiry asked if anyone had experience using the spinecor and Triac systems for Scoli and what the success was. Also if there is a strong preference for one or the other and what the pitfalls were. The responses are as follows:

TriaC is only recommended for Curves with the Value less than 25 degree cobb's.
Kim Salemaven
Orthpedic Technologist (Pak)

I used SpineCore while working at a children's hospital. It is a lot to stock and the patient population is narrow. Despite the literature, we only noticed clinical effectiveness in:
young girls (usually 12 y/o or younger)
with flexible curves (that you can manually manipulate)
with curves of 20 degrees or less
and if memory serves me well, single curves were more successful

AS LAST I LOOKED THE L CODE PAYS ALMOST NOTHING ------I FOUND IT HARD TO EXPLAIN TO PARENTS THAT THESE STRAPS COST SO MUCH--EVEN WITH THE LONG TERM FOLLOW UP THEY CANNOT APPRECIATE ITS VALUE -----------YOU MIGHT GET A BETTER RESPONSE FROM WEALTHY FAMILIES THAT HAVE PAIN IN THE ASS CHILDREN THAT ARE AGAINST LOOKING AWKWARD AT SCHOOL-----I RECEIVED JUST AS MUCH COMPLAINT FROM A CHILD USING SPINECORE AS I DID FROM A TYPICAL SPINAL TECH TLSO FOR SCOLIOSES----GO FIGURE-----UN LESS A LOT HAS CHANGED WHEN I TOOK THE COURSE BEFORE BECKER GOT INVOLVED IT WAS VERY EXPENSIVE TO PURCHASE THE KIT AND THE REPLACEMENT STRAPS WERE EXPENSIVE FOR US THAT HAVE WEBBING IN OUR OFFICES ------------------I THINK THAT WITH A LOT OF HYPE IT COULD BE A GREAT SPECIAL BUSINESS---------I FOUND MOST DOCTORS WERE NOT INTRESTED BECAUSE ALL THE STUDIES WERE DONE OUT OF THE COUNTRY------JUST A THOUGHT

I personally have fitted about a dozen TriaC II. The results so far were mixed and I am still trying to figure out how to do proper and correct fitting. I would also like to get more info on the SpineCore and Triac II as well. I'd appreciate that you post the responses or forward all the responses to me. Thank you.

I have done both and feel they both offer similar results.
I would suggest trying the TRIA C because the out of pocket expenses are much less.
It doesn't come with flashy software, but the end results are what is important.

Jennifer, we have just started the SpineCor system. I have about 5/6
patients in them now. It seems to be doing fine. The correction is
slower than going after the whole curve at once as in the Boston.
However, the compliance is wonderful and the young girls are very
supportive along with the parents. Our orthopedic physicians do announce
a disclaimer on it until they have additional information which I
understand is coming soon.

I have worked with Professor Cheneau using his technique (Cheneau Corset) I
would suggest looking at his system, as it is a very accurate brace with
very specific rules. Using the Cheneau concepts, I designed a central
fabrication system for a company that works very well. The web site is a
little difficult to navigate but there is always an English translation to
everything. It you need any help feel free to ask.

Best wishes

I have not used the SpineCore system, but I have posed the same question to two of the centers that used it when if first came over from Europe. The upshot of their responses were that the Spine Core system worked best on curves under 25 degrees, . . . when bracing is questionable anyway. They used the system only if the patient refused to wear a more traditional style of brace.

If you're looking for an alternative to Bostons on severe curves, I'd encourage you to look into Dr. Miguel Gomez's system. I worked with his system for a number of years, and was quite impressed with it. Miguel's worked with scoliosis for 20 years in the US, Columbia and throughout South America. He's developed a very effective CAD-CAM based system that allows him to do some pretty impressive things. The last time I spoke with him, he was fabricating spinal braces for Texas Scottish Rite, the University of Oklahoma and Children's Memorial in Chicago, in addition to his own patient pool in Houston. He has a web-site that's a bit rough around the edges (Miguel is a native Columbian, however, his english is much better than my Spanish). You can access it at <URL Redacted>. Having worked with Boston, Providence, Charleston, and handcasting, I've been impressed with Miguel's system.

Best of Luck,

--I also spoke to Rich at Boston Brace about the TriacII. He says they are working on a study to replicate the Somas report on its efficacy.

Good luck to all.
