Prosthetic Practitioners:
My name is Andy Curran and I am a student in the MSPO
Program at Georgia Tech. I am conducting a research project investigating
the capacity of the prosthetic profession in Georgia to meet the demand for
services.
Towards that end, I am trying to determine what the general capacity of a
prosthetist is to provide lower limb prostheses annually. Regardless of
where you live, to the best of your ability, please estimate the following:
1) How many lower limb prostheses did YOU (personally, not your business or
facility as a whole) deliver last year?
A) <25 limbs (<1 every 2 weeks)
B) 25 limbs (1 every 2 weeks)
C) 50 limbs (1/wk)
D) 75 limbs (1.5/wk)
E) 100 limbs (2/wk)
F) 125 limbs (2.5/wk)
G) 150 limbs (3/wk)
H) 175 limbs (3.5/wk)
I) 200 limbs (4/wk)
J) 225 limbs (4.5/wk)
K) 250 limbs (5/wk)
L) 250+ limbs (>5/wk)
2) Given your current operations and business structure (no new hires, etc.)
if there was a steady stream of funded patients, please estimate the maximum
number of prostheses you believe you could deliver annually?
A) <25 limbs (<1 every 2 weeks)
B) 25 limbs (1 every 2 weeks)
C) 50 limbs (1/wk)
D) 75 limbs (1.5/wk)
E) 100 limbs (2/wk)
F) 125 limbs (2.5/wk)
G) 150 limbs (3/wk)
H) 175 limbs (3.5/wk)
I) 200 limbs (4/wk)
J) 225 limbs (4.5/wk)
K) 250 limbs (5/wk)
L) 250+ limbs (>5/wk)
3) On average after the first year of amputation and not considering
financial limitations, how often does an individual with a lower limb
amputation require a new prosthesis?
A) Every year
B) Every 2 years
C) Every 3 years
D) Every 4 years
E) Every 5 years
F) Other __________________
If you practice somewhere other than US, please include your
location/country where you practice.
Responses will be averaged in order to obtain an overall estimate and range
of the capacity of a prosthetist to deliver lower limb prostheses. No names
will be included in any subsequent reports. All responses will be held in
strict confidentiality. If you have any questions please feel free to reply
to me directly.
Thank you for supporting research within our profession.
