I have a patient in his 30's, trans tibial amputation approximately 5 years ago. For the past 3 1/2 years he has worn a locking urethane gel liner. Almost a year ago he developed a pimple or two that resolved, he then developed what looked like a boil and was treated by his family physician, it tested positive for staph. Since that time he has kept a rash or pimples and has not had near the comfort he enjoyed prior to this onset. He washes the liner daily using septisol soap, and weekly alcohol cleansing. He has in the past week opened a brand new liner for use. We have tried the liner liner textile to no avail.
1. Would changing from urethane to silicone or something else make a difference? He is going to cleanse with alcohol daily.
2. Would the liner hold the staph once contaminated?
As always, thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Gary A. Lamb LPO, CO
