Dear List,
I am the student that Mr. Rhodes is trying to help find information about the Sister Kenny crutch. I have been on the internet, library, for about three weeks trying to find specific information that shows she invented the crutches. The reason for my question is that I found a patent #2197279 dated April 16, 1940, filed September 5, 1939, which is about 7 months before Sister Kenny came to the US and started her work at the Minnesota Mayo Clinic. If you go to www.freepatentsonline.com and type in the patent number you can see for yourself that they are exactly like the Kenny Crutch but invented and patented by Mr. A.N. Thorssen. I can not find a patent with Sister Kenny's name or reference. I have also emailed Thomas Fetterman's company asking for patent numbers so that I can look them up to see when she invented and patented her crutches. I have also been to the Polio history website, the Minnesota Mayo Clinic, Kenny Institute, and have not found any specific informa!
tion that shows when she invented and/or patented her crutches.
If anyone has any specific information or patent numbers that may be helpful please feel free to email me directly at:
