I recommend to call Kim from Shriners Hospital in Springfield, Ma. She's seen a ton, has done research on this, and is an expert on this. Please pass along my well wishes.

I had a physician here at UNC inquire about this type of orthosis and if we could fabricate them. This was about 6 months ago. He mentioned that a past colleague of his (based at Cincinatti Childrens Hospital Medical Center) had a company that was making them. I asked about billing such a brace but have not heard back since..maybe you could call them? The brace looks fairly easy to fabricate. Hope this helps..

Try a Jewitt and place a thick, padded shell made of polypropylene.
You can then attach shell with four screws. Modify the padding as
needed.

We used to work with a pediatric thoracic surgeon who would perform a
pectus excavatum procedure on what I believe this boy has. Does this boy
have a sunken type chest that is getting worse? Most of the patients that we
worked with were much younger, 5 - 8 years of age. In any event we made a
quick type of vest out of a low temp plastic. We would line the plastic with
1/4 plastazote or something similar and then create a trapezoid shaped vest
that we would heat and mold to the chest. This vest would protect the
patient as armour over the surgical site. It was fastened with Velcro
posterior and over the shoulders. I don't know if this info helps, but I
tried. If I can be of further assistance please feel free to contact me.

Hi Gerald,
We actually fabricate a brace from a cast and detailed measurements. If you
are interested, give me your address, and I can send you the information.
Thank you,

good results as long as kids are compliant (i.e.
approx. 16 hour/day use). Here's a link

Gerald,
I have done several of these and have had Spinal Tech fab them for me. As it is not one of their normal designs, you would have to tell them it is the design that I use for PC. I just approach it like scoliosis and apply similar padding, progressively increasing pressure as the skin will tolerate in six week increments, but with an initial 2 week f/u appoiuntment to verify correct usage, etc. I am attaching a couple pics for you to consider whether or not you're interested in this design. By the way, I don't use the shoulder straps if the deformity is more distal, falling below midline of the anterior shell. Let me know if you are intyerested and have any questions.
Good luck...Andy

The orthotist that works for me- Lloyd Baker, CO has participated in a research project for the development of an orthosis for the treatment of this pathology. I do not know the details of the orthosis and casting but you could give him a call and discuss it with him- I believe he will have a great deal of insight for you- the study has been published, I believe several years ago.
You can reach him at 801-392-5999. I will let him know that I responded to your inquiry.

I have fitted about 15 patients. We use a system fabricate by West Coast Brace and Limb in Tampa. It works pretty good if you can get the patient to use it. At Newington Hospital they have extensive experience. Hope someone up there answers you.
