Here are the responses as well as the original post - I didn't post the
replies right away because I didn't quite find what I was looking for. The
patient hasn't decided to go ahead with this yet but most likely I will be
using the Ultraflex ROM joint with the power unit removed.

Thanks to all for the advice!

Original post -
I have just seen a 54 y.o. lady who fractured the proximal ends of her
radius and ulna. There are no contraction or instability issues but she has
pain through 0-30 deg of flexion and numbness and discomfort at 100+ deg
flexion. I have been looking through catalogs and the net for ROM elbow
joints or pediatric knee joints. Becker has the U-30-2 joint but it can only
be set in 30 deg increments for the flexion and extension stops. Others are
meant for contracture management etc.

The most appropriate I have seen is the EO ROM from Ultraflex systems. This
offers free motion within the set flexion and extension range and can be set
at any degree. I would be using both medial and lateral joints, my concern
is that it looks like it would torque, bind and possible fracture easily. I
haven't seen on in action before, does anyone have experience with this
joint?

Any experience with the Ultraflex or suggestions of other ROM joints would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have used the ultraflex joint minus the power units as ROM joints in
bilateral elbows. This particular patient had a behavioral problem of
rubbing his eyes so hard that it was leading to blindness. I used a medial
and lateral joint and set it so he couldn't get his hand up to his eyes but
had free motion up to that point. This allowed him to crawl (he can
quadraped crawl but not walk unassisted) and use his arms otherwise. This
was a medium build, 6 ft. adult. He did break the upright once so breakage
could be a problem but it really was the best result I could find and he is
putting weight through the joint when he crawls. Good luck.

I have used the Ultraflex joints and have not had any breakage problems.I
like the joints a lot.

Have you thought of the ARD Elbow ROM from Professional Products (Ezy
Wrap)? It is in 10 degree increments for both flexion and extension. Free
ROM occurs in between these set points. You can get it as a single or
bilateral hinge configuration, your choice. Just another thought for you.

Good Afternoon Cheryl,

It's always great to see us on the ListServ. I invite you call our
Clinical & Technical Support Team at 800-220-6670. They can go over your
concerns about the stability of the EO ROM.

Also, I would love to see what responses you get from your colleagues.

Thank you for your interest in Ultraflex.
