Dear List,
I am trying to find someone with experience in motorized wheelchairs. My dad and I acquired an old, 10+ years, motorized wheelchair. We took the motors, controls, and wheels off the old chair and fabricated a new frame and then attached the motors, controls, and wheels from the old chair. Everything works great on the motorized chair but we are having some difficulties.
1. Power: I am a small female and I can go up and down inclines in the chair, but my dad 300lbs+ can not go up or down inclines in the chair. We tried changing the gear ratio and it didn't work.
2. Switches: There are two switches on the control box, and two internal switches one in the hand control box and one in the motor control box and we can't figure out what they do.
If anyone could help us out I would greatly appreciate any and all comments.
Thank you,
Jennifer L. Buchanan, Recent O&P graduate
