Tony,
Where do they sell the license for integrity? I am not a professional sir, I am a mere Prosthetic Practitioner, from what I have read on this list serve, sir, you are a true professional.
I did not mail order my Certification, but I have one, I did not buy it, but it cost me dearly. The people you speak of with low numerical values representing their credential are among the same generation who taught me, worked me, cut me no slack, but gave me the opportunity to succeed, then tested the results of their efforts relentlessly, over, and over again, then retested me at Northwestern.
My number is 949, pretty low any more, but I have one, am just a CP, if I got an O, I would have one of your coveted higher numbers, if you got a number today, it would be a lot higher than mine, that might give you more credibility in some circles.
Phillipe may have given you a legitimate excuse to promote the license agenda, but most of us know what is, and has, happened in Florida regarding Medicare abuse, and fraud, so, I ask you sir, does a license assure integrity?
You are a frequent to this list serve, and I usually find your posts have a little entertainment value, albeit self serving, but to paint our past generation with such a broad brush is beneath even you.
Many great people belong to that group, the people who laid the foundation for the integrity that does exist today.
These are the circles I still frequent, the individuals left, If you are dissapointed with the people you have dealt with over the years, perhaps you should take a closer look at yourself.

You are being forthright and honest.
Those that state your comments were unprofessional hang on to the theory
of being wanna be legitimate healthcare professionals.
Heavens, lets not imply that some of your colleagues maybe incompetent and
delivering less than satifactory services!!
As long as your O&P field remains unlicensed its not a legitimate health
care 'profession'.
Yeah, we continue to beat the licensure drum but and we average adding one
state a year to the states that have been regulated since 1995.
The truth is that many don't want the accountability and oversight of state
regulation and both credentialing association do neither.
Both of your critics are in unregulated states, California and Penn, and
seek or have legislated parity laws to force the state to make insurance
carriers pay even more unqualified providers. Look at their certification
#s and you can determine if they were required to have the requirements of
today's certification.
Most likely they were mailed their ABC cerificate upon paying a fee if the
credential are numberd under 00600.
Ask if they wear multiple hats as providers and manufacturer.
When you make statements as to the shortcomings of qualifications of some
providers work ,that, in my opinion, is healthy to the industry, some
including Mr. Hime's and Mr. Hammontree's do not want to recognize the fact
that there are some incompetent providers out there. Sad but true they see
no reason for reform although both of them and all of them and you have
seen some of this crap delivered by your 'profession'..
Can you blame Medicare and third party payers from pulling back coverage's
when providers in approx 39 states are not even required to have a
meaningless and optional credential let alone any accountability or
oversight of the faulty workmanship you have pointed out.
Every provider is aware of the stuff that is being made out there by some
providers. They have seen it and laughed but not not gotten angry to expose
it or do anything about it ?
We need folks like you to expose the fact that your field is infiltrated by
many incompetent, untrained providers, who are insulated from any
accountability and oversight by requirements of optional educational
requirements,qualifications and accrediadations.
I think its healthy for folks to point out shortcomings in any field
,including in this self destructing and for the most part unregulated one.
I respect your point of view and so should your critics.Your certificate
wasn't mailed to you simply by paying a fee.

I find it interesting that some find my post unprofessional, yet don't
comment on the indecent. Would it be unprofessional if I said the same thing
to you at one of our meetings? I write like I would speak, I've been in this
field to long to put on a front while sharing things with those on the
listserve. I think it might bother some that others not in our field might
be reading this. Like someone said integrity is something you have or don't.
We all see things like this , why should we ignore what the few are doing to
screw it up for everyone else. I wonder if the patient I have who's poorly
made socket has been cutting into him for 10 months, or whose totally
inappropriate computer knee and ceterus foot weigh so much that he DRAGS his
prostheses around is concerned that I sound professional . I'm sure he
would be much happier in his situation if his old prosthetist had only had a
professional bedside manner. People like those, who are sincere and
honest with them wi!
th our any fony fronts, who feel that there provider is SINCERELY
interested in their well being, and helping them resume a normal life. Good
bedside manner isn't something some of us have to study or even think about
before meeting a new patient. If they going away feeling they just met a
down to earth fellow who seems to really care about them , Ive done not just
my job as a professional but as a human being. Phillipe Cartaya CPO
