The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund, Inc. (OPAF) announces several
upcoming events across the country in the next few weeks. We hope you can
join in if we're in your neighborhood! We're always looking for volunteers!
On Saturday, July 22, OPAF will host a First Volley adaptive tennis clinic
at Alta Vista Tennis Courts in Redondo Beach, CA. The clinic is offered
FREE OF CHARGE and will run from 11 am to 2pm. First Volley will feature
our inspirational player, Dana Bezar. Dana is a quadrilateral amputee who
plays tennis standing up with her only concession being a double bounce, if
needed. Volunteers and observers are welcome as well as ambulatory players.
More information and registration materials are available on the OPAF
homepage at www.opfund.org.
On Friday, July 28, OPAF will introduce First Splat! First Splat is a
paintball event, immediately prior to the Extremity Games in Orlando,
beginning at 8 PM and held at the Orlando Watersports Complex, the same site
as the Extremity Games. Open to all ambulatory players, the cost for First
Splat will be $40.95 per person and includes a complete paintball package of
mask, gun, tank, air, paint balls and admission to the park. Advance
registration is not necessary though if you are definitely interested,
please notify us of your intention to participate. Come on out and Give Us
Your Best Shot at First Splat! More information is available at the OPAF
homepage at www.opfund.org.
Saturday, August 19 will present the long awaited First Splash at Highland
Swim Club in Galloway Township, New Jersey. Our original date of June 24
was rained out, but we are ready to go and the water's fine! First Splash
is an adaptive swimming clinic lead by Dennis Williams, CP and amputee
swimmer and Lauren McVey, OPAF Advisory Board member as well as a host of
volunteers. First Splash will welcome Jessica Long, Paralympic swimmer to
our event. Cost for First Splash is $15 per swimmer and $10 per guest and
includes a pizza party and open swim after the clinic. First Splash is for
amputees, orthosis wearers and those who love them! For registration
materials and further information, check us out at www.opfund.org.
OPAF is working to provide 'First' programs which promote health and fitness
for those served by the O & P community. Your participation and the
participation of your patients is what moves us forward. Please contact
