To the O&P World:
Linkia was brought to our attention several months ago by myself and very few of my colleagues. I was quite shocked that there was very little reply/response regarding the potential problems that Linkia causes for the private independent O&P practice.
We are noticing that the independent practice is slowly being cut out of the picture. What is also shocking is that the independent business owner has not spoken up yet on this issue at least in the state of Florida. History shows that individuals only speak up when it affects their wallets.
I will give Hanger the credit for developing an unbelievable business plan. It is a win/win situation for them when it comes to parity vs. Linkia. They have always been involved in what is going on in their states. So I ask all business owners to be as equally involved.
FYI...I called Linkia recently and asked who the providers were for the state of Florida. I spoke with someone named Sherry and she told me, “There is no list of providers I can send you but if you go to any Hanger office in Florida, they can assist you.” I asked her if Hanger was the only provider that I could go to and she said “Yes.” I asked if there was anyone else on the network, and she said “Currently only the Hanger offices are in the network of providers.”
In case you are unaware, there are 40 Hanger offices in the state of Florida.
I call on all colleagues in Florida to please be aware of Linkia and the possible Parity bill and how it may affect the independent O&P practice. Knowledge is only power when you do something with it. Speak up before the consequences are irreversible.
