I have fielded some phone calls from manufacturers regarding the review
course that NUPOC hosts at the end of May every year. We have moved the
course dates in an effort to remove the conflicts with the Midwest Chapter
meetings. There is still plenty of time to register for the following:
Prosthetics and Orthotics for Manufacturers and Suppliers July 26-28th,
2006
This three day course is for individuals involved with suppliers and
manufacturers in the orthotic and prosthetic industry. Individuals such as,
sales representatives, customer service staff, design engineers, and
consumer representatives are all welcome to participate. The course is
designed to provide an overview of important orthotic and prosthetic issues
as they relate to suppliers and manufacturers.
Course material is presented by faculty experienced with clinical
management and educational presentations. Students will receive a
comprehensive manual to use as a resource during and upon completion of the
program. The course will be learner centered with lively discussions and
group participation. The course begins at 8:00 am on July 26, 2006 and ends
3:30 pm on July 28, 2006.
The course will include, but not is limited to, the following topics;
A review of basic anatomy with emphasis on musculoskeletal function,
focused for the non– health professional.
A general overview of normal and abnormal walking, emphasizing applications
to lower limb orthotics and prosthetics.

related issues for the non-health professional.
An introduction to basic medical terminology for the non-health
professional, with emphasis on words and phrases used in orthotics and
prosthetics.
An introduction to basic theories and design principles used in orthotics
and prosthetics.
At the end of this three day seminar participants should be able to:
Understand the basic principles used in the prescription design, and
application of lower limb, upper limb and spinal orthoses.
Improve their communication skills with medical and allied health
professionals, specifically orthotists and prosthetists.
